The city’s relatively compact Downtown includes the Theater District, home to the renowned Houston Grand Opera, and the Historic District, with 19th-century architecture and upscale restaurants.
To the south, the Museum District brings together many of the city’s key museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, which showcases well-known Impressionist and Renaissance painters, and the Menil Collection, with an acclaimed ensemble of Surrealist art and a special gallery dedicated to modern painter Cy Twombly. Nearby 545-acre Hermann Park and the popular Houston Museum of Natural Science border well-known research institutions Rice University and Texas Medical Centre. Shopping can be found at Uptown’s Galleria, a massive mall, as well as the Montrose neighbourhood, known for hip boutiques and nightlife.

Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig & Museum features three floors of models, exhibits, equipment, and interactive displays depicting the story of offshore oil exploration and production. This retired drilling rig created approximately 200 wells while active, and it's now a self-guided museum featuring drilling platform mock-ups, explanations about pipelines, drill bits, and tubing. Watch a video explaining drilling exploration facts, and take the skywalk out onto the drill floor of the rig. Hands-on exhibits provide interactive education for children.
12.30pm-2:30am : Moody Gardens, Galveston
Complete with accommodations, a golf course, and science center, Moody Gardens combines recreation with an extensive collection of zoo and aquarium exhibits. Spread out over 98 hectares (242 acres), the park hosts three attractions in the form of giant pyramids: the Aquarium pyramid, the Rainforest pyramid, and the Discovery pyramid, each focused on a different group of animal residents. You can wander amongst the living displays, home to more than 9,000 individual creatures. Don't miss seeing monkeys roaming free through the jungle habitat. For some outdoor fun, take the paddlewheel boat tour, or spend time on the hotel's white sand beach. If you're planning to golf, book a tee time beforehand, as spots can fill up very quickly.

Take part in astronaut simulations of landing on the moon and walking in space, or tour the center’s collection of spacecrafts from U.S. missions, including the Saturn V. The Menil Collection includes 17,000 pieces from the ancient times to the modern era. Browse through the numerous paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, and books of one of the largest private art collections in the United States. You'll see works of Picasso and Matisse, view world-renowned Pop, Surreal, and other contemporary art, and come across artifacts like a pure gold casket from 6th-century Macedonia and a 16th-century Russian icon. After exploring the treasures inside, take a walk through the campus gardens, where you'll encounter additional galleries and two chapels. No photographs are allowed inside the museum.

Standing more than 18 m (60 ft) tall, Water Wall recirculates more than 4,000 li (1,057 gal) of water per minute. The architecture of the wall behind the water features a semicircle with water cascading down the structure's inner and outer walls. Be sure to step inside, where the deafening roar provides another perspective of this centerpiece of the city's business center. There is no fee to visit the wall, but be mindful of posted opening and closing hours. To avoid parking fees, park your car at the nearby mall for free and walk over.

The 16,800-seat Lakewood Church building, home to four English-language services and two Spanish-language services per week, is located at the former Compaq Center. Joel Osteen is the senior pastor of Lakewood Church with his wife, Victoria, who serves as co-pastor. Lakewood Church is non-denominational (not affiliated), while the leadership may be considered part of the Word of Faith movement.

One of the ten most-attended musuems in the United States, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is also one of the largest museums in the country, featuring 64,000 works from six continents. Come to view the Impressionist and Postimpressionist art, as well as pieces from the Baroque and Renaissance periods, plus sculptures from Africa, South America, the Caribbean islands, and the South Pacific. Check at the entrance or online for details about temporary exhibits.

Since 1914, Hermann Park has been one of the most visited public parks in Houston. Take your pick among the options, such as beautiful gardens, a zoo, an outdoor theater, and a museum. Play 18 holes at the Hermann Park Golf Course, the first desegregated golf course in the United States, or aim for a more educational experience at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. At the Houston Garden Center, you can immerse yourself in the enchanting aromas of fresh roses. The park features a picnic area and many walking paths.

Listed as one of the most important buildings in America by the American Institute of Architects, 1892 Bishop's Palace commands attention in the city's historical district. Finished in 1892 on the commission of former Confederate soldier Walter Gresham, the ornate Victorian structure offers a window into the life of the local elite in the early 20th century. This massive, stone home now holds a spot on the National Register of Historic Places and operates as a museum dedicated to the life and times of the Gresham family. Join a tour of the luxurious interior, including a giant fireplace and a 12 m (40 ft) tall mahogany staircase. Note the unusual statues and carvings of dragons and other mythical creatures, selected by architect Nicholas Clayton. Take a 16.6 km (10.3 mi) walk on one of the longest continuous sidewalks in the world, The Seawall. It was built to protect the city from the destructive power of waves. On this 5.2 m (17 ft) high wall, you'll see long stretches of murals that depict underwater life painted by children. You'll encounter a number of statues and historical markers throughout the site. The sidewalk is wide and suitable for jogging and cycling. You'll see shops and restaurants along the wall as well.
3:00pm-5:00pm : The Strand, Galveston
Take a stroll through The Strand district, home to a number of historical buildings, restaurants, antique shops, art galleries, and souvenir stores. Many of these late-18th-century constructions survived the 1900 storm, the deadliest hurricane in U.S. history. You can learn more about the natural disaster at Pier 21, which has daily showings of "The Great Storm of 1900." Horse-and-carriage rides or an old-fashioned trolley are novel ways to explore the neighborhood.

Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens, located in the River Oaks community in Houston, Texas, United States, is a 14-acre (57,000 m2) facility of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) that houses a collection of decorative art, paintings and furniture. Bayou Bend is the former home of Houston philanthropist Ima Hogg. Bayou Bend was marked with a Texas Historical Commission marker in 1973 and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Children's Museum of Houston is designed for kids up to 12 years old, with over 8,400 square m (90,000 square ft) of indoor and outdoor exhibition space. Inventors' Workshop, Matter Factory, and Invention Convention are aimed at budding scientists, and EcoStation is powered by solar energy, so kids can learn about solar power. There's also an area specifically designed for babies and toddlers. Workshops and performances are included in your admission.
